Hail Damage
After a storm, there are visual damages and in some cases and more serious, hard to find damages caused by hail. Most people don’t realize hail damage has affected their building. As a result a hail damage insurance claim may not be filed promptly.
If there are visible clues of damage such as cars that are dented, or if any of the building’s windows are cracked then you should inspect your roof and air conditioner.
Roofs will most often sustain the most costly hail damage, yet hail damage to asphalt shingle roofs is often not immediately recognized. It may take up to three years after a hailstorm for a roof to leak. For flat roofs, unless the hail is quite large (baseball size or more), it may be even harder to detect the damage until much later; which can have an impact on any hail damage insurance claim.
Assessing Hail Damage
Hail damage claims, along with other types of property insurance claims, require you to promptly notify the insurance company. The sooner you make your claim the better. Even if hail has seriously damaged exterior surfaces, it may not be visible to the untrained eye. You will need an inspection of invisible damage.
